The Lego League Final where students presented their own Hydrodynamics Research Robotics Project took place earlier today in DCU.
Congratulations to the three groups of Transition Year students from Class Raphael who competed in the First ever Lego League Tournament for Leinster. The event took place in the Auditorium, DCU Institute of Education which is located on DCU St Pat’s campus from 9am this morning. The minister for Education and Skills Richard Bruton launched the event before meeting with all the competing teams.
After meeting with the minister the students got to present their Research Robotics Project based on Hydrodynamics. Each team had to give a brief project presentation, a robot design demonstration and a core values discussion in front of a judging panel. We are thrilled to report that our students picked up two of the main awards at the final. The students from team ‘Infinity Bytes’, Water Warriors’ and ‘Disney Droids’ were all amazing and displayed great knowledge when they gave their presentations and discussed the core values of their project with members of the judging panel. Although they didn’t win the overall prize our students won two out of the four overall awards. The team ‘Water Warriors’ won the award for best overall display of core values……. and ‘Disney Droids’ won the award for overall best robot design.
Many thanks to Ms Murphy for coaching the students of Class Raphael throughout this fantastic initiative undertaken in conjunction with Learnit and the DCU Lego Education Innovation Studio which is based in St Patrick’s campus Drumcondra. The league involves a global Science and Technology Challenge for students to encourage them to have interest in real-world issues of pivotal importance to a knowledge-based society and to develop key skills including creative thinking, problem-solving, team-working and communication that will be crucial for their future careers.
