A group of TY’s travelled to Grand Canal Dock on Friday 20th April to compete in the Blitzit Splash and Dash rowing competition. This was a great opportunity for inexperienced rowers to take to the water and compete against other novice rowers from schools across Ireland. We were extremely lucky with the weather as it was one of the nicest days of the year.
St Mary’s had 7 teams competing in various heats! Only the winner of each heat advanced to a semi-final. Two of our teams were lucky enough to win their heats and competed in separate semi-finals. A photo finish in one meant that one of our teams was pipped at the post by the smallest of margins. Our final team to row came second in their semi-final, which meant they advanced to the final!
Unfortunately we did not place in the final and did not bring home any silverware but the students were not disheartened as everyone really enjoyed the experience and had a great day out. Thanks to Mr Orr and Ms Walsh for accompanying the students on the day.
