St Mary’s Celebrates our Founder’s Day
On Wednesday 11th October our school community celebrated our Founder’s Day. Margaret Alyward founded the Holy Faith Order in 1867 and this year we are celebrating the 150th anniversary of this momentous event. The 11th October is Margaret Alyward Day and our Ember Team started the day appropriately by addressing the whole school community over the intercom, informing us of the life and work of our founder and inviting us to reflect on the words of her beautiful prayer which was read aloud by Hannah Ryan Murphy. Later in the morning Sr Marie Dunne visited the school to speak to some of our 1st year classes during RE. She talked about the Holy Faith Order, Margaret Alyward’s story, her own life story, how she joined the order, her love of music and her current ministry of bring music to the lives of children who are very ill. She played some clips of her own compositions that have been inspired by Margaret Alyward and by her own life in ministry.
