This term, the school was fortunate to have a visit from writers Patrick Ryan and Alan Early as part of the “Writers in Schools” education programme. The writers delivered creative workshops to various groups of students throughout the day and offered valuable advice to all our budding novelists.
Patrick Ryan (above) explained how his craft of storytelling has developed over years of teaching and travelling in America, England and Ireland. He described the origins of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” and then regaled the fifth and T.Y. student group with a bloodthirsty tale of vampires in the West of Ireland.
Alan Early (above) is a children’s writer and author of the widely acclaimed “Father of Lies” trilogy. His first book in the series “Arthur Quinn and the World Serpent” was released in 2011 and has been described by Eoin Colfer as “a brilliant creation” and it was also shortlisted in the 2011 Bord Gais Energy Irish Book Awards. He led two writing workshops with first year classes Kestrel and Wren which produced some very humorous, creative and imaginative results!
