The u19 basketballers did so well in reaching the final in Tallaght on Thursday 26th January against Santa Sabina of Sutton.
St Mary’s were first off the mark getting ahead in the first and second quarters. Half time came and St Mary’s were well in the driving seat always keeping a basket ahead. Excellent performances from Emma Bulger and Ciara Kelly kept St Mary’s in the game as well as excellent rebounds and defensive work from Stephanie Cluskey. From half time Santa Sabina upped their work rate and with a few lucky shots they snuck passed our defence putting them two baskets ahead into the final quarter. St Mary’s however never gave up and kept driving at the Sutton side in the dying moments of the game. Time wasn’t on our side and St Mary’s were unfortunate to lose out by one single basket in the end. Congratulations to the girls who displayed a fine performance of basketball and to Ms Murphy for her huge and continued work for basketball in the school.
